Rest on Thee

Since my post on Asa’s Perfect Heart I have been reciting Asa’s prayer daily because it is such a beautiful prayer that shows total trust and faith in God.

(2 Chronicles 14:11) “And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.”

The words in the prayer that has drawn my attention is rest on thee. What does it exactly mean to rest? The King James Bible Pure search software defines rest as:

1. Cessation of motion or action of any kind, and applicable to any body or being; as rest from labor; rest from mental exertion; rest of body or mind. A body is at rest, when it ceases to move; the mind is at rest, when it ceases to be disturbed or agitated.

2. Quiet; repose; a state free from motion or disturbance; a state of reconciliation to God.

3. That on which any thing leans or lies for support, to stand on; to be supported by; as, a column rests on its pedestal.

4. To lean; to trust; to rely.

It’s a new year with all new expectations and desire for change. I do know just because it’s a new day in a new year that means nothing when it comes to the condition of your mind and life. Expectations and change should start with resting on Jesus. Resting on Jesus means to fully trust Him. First you must believe that He is great enough, strong enough, or capable to support all of your weight. The weight of all the cares and burdens of this world. The weight of all the disappointments and hurts. The weight of insecurity and rejection. He is more than enough to handle everything that you are carrying, so let it go, start fresh and give it all to Him. As He takes each weight off of you and you begin to focus (Isaiah 26:3  Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee) and fully rely on Him because you know that He isn’t going anywhere and you can finally be able to just rest.

Matthew 11:28  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

  1. I’m so glad that I got to receive this message. Everyone is and will go through troubled times. When trying to resolve or figure out why, you never can come up with an answer or solution. That is why I rest on GOD. Why stress out over something you cannot control. With GOD as my father, I know, and have so much faith in him that I give it all to him so that I may rest and not stress on matters that’s out of my hands. Thank you my friend for sharing the words with me.
