What’s Next?

We have all asked ourselves this thought provoking question on the journey of life at some point or another. We have done this and finished that, but what’s next? I am currently contemplating this question with no clear answer in sight.

Two things I don’t want to do:

1) be like Saul and go before God and force myself to do something I wasn’t supposed to do and reap the unwanted consequences.

(1 Samuel 13:8-13) “And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. {9} And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering. {10} And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him. {11} And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash; {12} Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering. {13} And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.”

2) have the answer right in front of my face and not realize it. For example when John and Simon Peter asked  Jesus who is the one that will betray Him. Jesus tells them and shows them and they still didn’t realize who it was although the answer was right in front of their face.

(John 13:18-30) “I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me. {19} Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he. {20} Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. {21} When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. {22} Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake. {23} Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. {24} Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake. {25} He then lying on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it? {26} Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. {27} And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly. {28} Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him. {29} For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor. {30} He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.”

Asking the question what’s next can be stressful and frustrating due to all the uncertainty. Asking the question what’s next is a hard question when you try to answer it on your own, so I ask again what’s next LORD? And He replies, “keep following me”. If you are asking the same question right now in your point of life just keep following Him. If you follow, He will not lead you wrong and you will end up exactly where you need to be. Be encouraged.
