Only the Stump

I laugh every time I read the beginning of 1 Samuel Ch. 5 when the Philistines stole the Ark of Covenant from the Hebrews and brought it into the house of Dagon and placed it next to Dagon, the god they worshipped. They came back in the morning and found their god Dagon with head and palms cut off, leaving only the stump.

(1 Samuel 5:1-4) “And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Eben–ezer unto Ashdod.  {2} When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.  {3} ¶ And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.  {4} And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.”

Our God can’t be compared or mixed with other gods. Who is like the Lord? There is none like the Lord. Exodus 15:11 states this fact;  Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? We know that all other gods are idols;  Psalms 96:5 states, “For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.” Psalms 135:15-18 states, “The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.  {16} They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not;  {17} They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths.  {18} They that make them are like unto them: so is every one that trusteth in them.”

I just wanted to share my reading of the day so we all can have a good laugh and boast about the God we serve (Psalm 44:8).

(Isaiah 45:22-23) “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.  {23} I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.”

Where are their gods?

One of the things I like to do when studying the Bible is something I call Scripture Connection. I may run across a certain word or topic and search for it throughout the Bible to see if it’s mentioned elsewhere and take note of it. The reason I bring this up is because my friend was sharing with me an email she received from her job about the upcoming events on this particular University’s campus and wanted my opinion on it. The email was basically a call for all religions on the campus to come together (Interfaith movement) for The Better Together Week. The Better Together Week is calling all students of all different religious and philosophical backgrounds to come together to change the world. The University has planned a variety of activities for the week, including a Pardon My Ignorance table (bring your questions to be answered by an atheist, a muslim, etc.), a muslim prayer service, and an atheist assembly (their theme is “Rebels With a Cause”).

Once I read the email I was like wow, Satan is really pushing this Interfaith Movement. My response to her was that I don’t agree with the Interfaith Movement. Jesus stands alone, Amos 3:3 says “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” The answer is NO, Jesus has nothing in common with these false religions, HE IS THE ONE TRUE LIVING GOD! This is another ploy from Satan to bring everyone together for so called peace, there will never be peace until the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) comes to reign. It is also preparing the way for the One World Religion to bring in the antichrist.

Now onto why I mentioned Scripture Connection earlier, I did a Scripture Connection for those that follow false gods and called it “Where are their gods”? These are the scriptures that I connected with each other:

(Deuteronomy 32:37-40) “And he shall say, Where are their gods, their rock in whom they trusted, {38} Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offerings? let them rise up and help you, and be your protection. {39} See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. {40} For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever.

(Psalms 115:1-9) “Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake. {2} Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God? {3} But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased. {4} Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. {5} They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not: {6} They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not: {7} They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat. {8} They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them. {9} O Israel, trust thou in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.”

In these verses of scripture it shows that there is only one God who lives forever. Those others gods can do nothing for you, they can’t even speak, see, or hear. There is only one that we can put our trust in and His name is Jesus (Jeremiah 17:7). My prayer for all that are lost is that they may find the truth. Remember it is our job to proclaim the gospel and convert the lost.

God cannot Lie

Numbers 23:19 says:

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

To do so would be contrary to His nature for He is the “truth”(John 14:6).

He is a “God of truth and without iniquity” (Deuteronomy 32:4).
He is the “true God”(Jeremiah 10:10).
He is “true”(2 Corinthians 1:18).
His ways are “just and true”(Revelation 15:3).
His judgments are “true and righteous”(Revelation 16:7).
His words are “true”(2 Samuel 7:28).
