Solomon’s Commitment Issues

In my last blog, I wrote about Commitment Issues and in this blog, I will give an example of this in Solomon’s life. Solomon was the son of David and the man that built the house of God. David prayed to God for his son, and in that prayer, one of the things he asks is that God gives him a perfect heart.

1 Chronicles 29:19 And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision.

We know that Solomon made many mistakes and one of his mistakes was that he loved many strange women and those strange women pulled him away from God.

1 Kings 11:1 But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites;

The LORD did not want the other nations influencing the children of Israel, they were not supposed to go into them nor did He want the other nations to come in unto the children of Israel. God knew that they would turn away their heart after their gods. This is exactly what happened to Solomon. His heart turned away from God and turned to the gods of the women he loved. (1 Kings 11:2)

1 Kings 11:4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.

Solomon had commitment issues; he was committed to the people of this ungodly world.

In 2 Corinthians Chapter 6, verses 14-18 it reads:

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? {15} And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? {16} And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. {17} Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, {18} And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Remember, the LORD says to be separate from the unbelievers and unrighteous, we are to be like Christ.

Deuteronomy 14:2 – For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.
