He is a Buckler

In the coming weeks we will be in a new year, God be willing and these passages of scripture come to mind. (Psalms 18:29-36) “For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.  {30} As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.  {31} For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God?  {32} It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.  {33} He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places.  {34} He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.  {35} Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.  {36} Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.”

Psalm 18 verse 29 states, “For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall. God has given us the strength this year to get through the tough situations in our life. In battle you can’t just run through a troop without being attacked by the opposition, so God blocked all attempts of destruction. All those walls that were set to block you, you leaped over.

Psalm 18 verse 30 states, He is a buckler to all that trust in Him. A buckler is defined as a kind of shield or piece of defensive armor used in war. It was composed of wood, or wickers woven together, covered with skin or leather, fortified with plates of brass or other metal. God definitely has been our buckler to shield us from seen and unseen danger daily.

He truly has blessed us with many benefits and I am so grateful. Psalms 68:19 states, Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. His grace and mercy is unending. O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever (Psalms 136:26).

Master Builder

As I watched the builders building a new home outside my window I was reminded of Psalms 127:1 which states, “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” The scripture made me think about our spiritual house that the LORD has built.

We know that building a physical house is a process that includes different stages. Our spiritual house also is a process and includes different stages. I wanted to focus on two of the stages in the process. First off you need a good foundation because without it how will the house stand. Our foundation is Jesus Christ as stated in Isaiah 28:16, Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. Luke 6:47-48 states, Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:  {48} He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.”

The next step in building a house is the framing. Framing is fitting together the pieces to give a structure support and shape. Our spiritual house also is framed as stated in Ephesians 2:18-22, “For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.  {19} Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;  {20} And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;  {21} In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:  {22} In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”

As a believer isn’t it great to know that the LORD has built our house (spiritual) and we know that the house the LORD builds is safe, protected, built to last, and can’t be destroyed.

If you are living life trying to build your own house (spiritual) in vain and trusting in yourself or other gods that don’t live, see, hear, or talk and would like the Master Builder, the only true living God, Jesus to build your house all you have to do as stated in Romans 10:9, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

My Inheritance

I have a hypothetical question to ask, how would you feel if you learned that you had a distant relative that passed and has left you an inheritance of great value? I know you would be more than happy and probably even do a little dance. Who wouldn’t want to have an inheritance, the daughters of Zelophehad stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the princes, and all the congregation to request the inheritance of their father (Numbers 27:2-7). God promised an inheritance to the children of Israel; (Numbers 34:1-2) “And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,  {2} Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land of Canaan; (this is the land that shall fall unto you for an inheritance, even the land of Canaan with the coasts thereof:)”. An inheritance is very important to have and is common throughout the Bible.

I have an inheritance waiting for me, we all have an inheritance waiting for us. No it’s not from a long lost or distant relative it’s much better than that. This inheritance is eternal, to be a part of the Kingdom of God (Colossians 1:12,13). Can you just imagine how wonderful it will be, I’m sure our imagination doesn’t even come close.

(Revelation 21:1-4) “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.  {2} And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.  {3} And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.  {4} And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

(Revelation 21:21-27) “And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.  {22} And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.  {23} And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.  {24} And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.  {25} And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.  {26} And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.  {27} And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”

(Revelation 22:3-5) “And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:  {4} And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.  {5} And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.”

(Revelation 22:12-13) “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.  {13} I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.”

I asked a hypothetical question earlier, how would you feel if you learned that you had a distant relative that passed and has left you an inheritance? For us believers it’s not hypothetical, it is a reality, not a distant relative, but the good shepherd, our LORD and SAVIOUR JESUS who gave His life for ours.

In honour of Resurrection Day I wanted us to look forward to our future which was only made possible through the death, burial, and resurrection of our LORD Jesus Christ. For those of you that would like to have an eternal inheritance waiting for you all you have to do as stated in Romans 10:9, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

(Psalms 33:12) Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

His Expression of Love

Love is in the air and Valentine’s Day is approaching for those that celebrate that day. You know roses are red, violets are blue, you love me, and I love you. The day where lovers express their love for one another with temporary gifts. Expression of love is great and God is love (1 John 4:16) and He showed His love for us by giving us the gift of eternal life through His son Jesus. John 3:16-17 states, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  {17} For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” Praise God that His expression of love is not temporary, but eternal.

(Titus 3:4-7) “But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,  {5} Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;  {6} Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;  {7} That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

(1 John 4:9-10) “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.  {10} Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

“Choose Life”

(Deuteronomy 30:19) “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:”

In this time of year as we enter into the celebration of our LORD and Saviour’s birth let us not forget the reason why we are celebrating. God gave us a gift and gave us a choice if we would receive the gift. The choice of life or death and we chose life. There are others who need to know about the gift of Jesus and this is the perfect time to share. Instead of giving and receiving gifts amongst each other, how about we give God a gift and go out to win souls for His kingdom because after all it is not about us.

(John 3:16) ” For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

(Romans 6:23) “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

(Matthew 28:19-20)  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  {20} Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.  Amen.”

(Proverbs 11:30) “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”

Shoelaces

Remember when you were a little kid and you didn’t know how to tie your shoelaces? Your mom or dad would have to tie them for you because if not you would run off and eventually trip and fall possibly hurting yourself. As time passed you started to learn to tie them on your own, but you noticed the shoelaces never looked the same as when your parents tied them. They were always neat and even, but yours was messy and uneven and sometimes came right apart.

In life there are shoelaces and we can call them the shoelaces of life. We have tried over and over to tie them perfectly, but can’t quite do it. We end up trying to walk or run and yes we may be able to manage not stumbling for awhile, but eventually we fall. It is the same as when we were a little kid we still need help tying our shoelaces, but this time the only one that can tie them perfectly is Jesus.

Let Him tie your shoelaces of life He promises He will not let you fall.

(Psalms 55:22) “Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”

(Psalms 29:11) “The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.”

(Isaiah 41:10) “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Ginger Tea

(Reflection on Life)

I wanted to share my experience in the grocery store because it reminds me of how life can be as a believer in Christ.

I was in the grocery store looking for ginger tea so I decided to ask the manager since he was nearby. He happily escorted me to the aisle and I proceeded down the aisle cautiously not to miss it and I still didn’t see it. I was beginning to notice that it doesn’t look like tea would even belong on this aisle. Did he send me down the wrong aisle? Where is it? Finally I get all the way down to the other end of the aisle and there it was on the top left.

I find this ordinary experience in the grocery store to be a reflection on life. We are going through life looking for something God told us He would give us, but when we don’t see it right away we get discouraged and think we must be going in the wrong direction. We almost turn around, but the Holy Spirit speaks to us and says, “keep going it’s right up ahead”.

(Proverbs 3:5-6) ” Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  {6} In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

How much Longer?

For those that are tired of waiting:

We have read throughout the Bible many examples of Biblical characters having to wait on the appointed time of God for things/situations to change that they have prayed for. For example Isaac prayed to God for his wife Rebekah because she was barren.

(Genesis 25:20-21) “And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan–aram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.  {21} And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.”

God answered Isaac’s prayer, but it took 20 years of them praying to the Lord for a child for it to come to pass. Isaac was 60 years old when Rebekah bare their children.

(Genesis 25:24-26) “¶ And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.  {25} And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.  {26} And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau’s heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.”

This is a great reminder to have confidence and patience when we pray, God hears us (Psalms 34:17). 1 John 5:14-15 says, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:  {15} And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” 1 John 3:21-22 says, “Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.  {22} And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.”

Whatever your situation may be, whatever you may be waiting on just keep waiting. I know waiting for an answer can feel like walking through a desert. It is dry, frustrating, and tiring and all you want to know if it’s going to rain any time soon. You may feel like you can’t go on, but be encouraged in your wait it will happen in God’s appointed time. God’s timing is perfect and knowing that should make you smile.

(Psalms 27:14) “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”

In Derision

(Psalms 2:1-5) “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?  {2} The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,  {3} Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.  {4} He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.  {5} Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.”

If you take a look at the world  you will see that  Psalms 2:1-3 explains a reason why it is the way that it is. We see those in authority (Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”) coming together against the Lord and everything that He stands for.  Their doing all they can to push their ungodly agenda, being used by the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience (Ephesians 2:2). We witness the changing of laws, the moral decline of society, and people calling evil good and good evil which is spoken of in Isaiah 5:20. The world we live in is completely manipulated (for those who understand what I mean by saying this). By the way don’t believe everything you see in the media.

All the while as it states in Psalms 2:4, God is sitting in the heavens laughing and will have them in derision.

The definition of derision according to King James Pure Bible Search Software is:

DERISION, n.

1. The act of laughing at in contempt.

2. Contempt manifested by laughter; scorn.

3. An object of derision or contempt; a laughing-stock.

They think they are in control, but oh how God laughs. Psalms 59:8 also speaks of how the LORD will laugh; But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision. You don’t have to be in the secret society meetings to know what they are discussing the Bible already told you their agenda. They think they are winning now, but destruction is at their end. Psalms 9:15-16 states, “The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.  {16} The LORD is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands.

It gives me solace to know that God is in control and will bring upon them their own iniquity and cut them off in their own wickedness (Psalm 94:23). In Psalm 46:10 the LORD says, “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth”.

Only the Stump

I laugh every time I read the beginning of 1 Samuel Ch. 5 when the Philistines stole the Ark of Covenant from the Hebrews and brought it into the house of Dagon and placed it next to Dagon, the god they worshipped. They came back in the morning and found their god Dagon with head and palms cut off, leaving only the stump.

(1 Samuel 5:1-4) “And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Eben–ezer unto Ashdod.  {2} When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.  {3} ¶ And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.  {4} And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.”

Our God can’t be compared or mixed with other gods. Who is like the Lord? There is none like the Lord. Exodus 15:11 states this fact;  Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? We know that all other gods are idols;  Psalms 96:5 states, “For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.” Psalms 135:15-18 states, “The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.  {16} They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not;  {17} They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths.  {18} They that make them are like unto them: so is every one that trusteth in them.”

I just wanted to share my reading of the day so we all can have a good laugh and boast about the God we serve (Psalm 44:8).

(Isaiah 45:22-23) “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.  {23} I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.”
